We operate as a collective membership organization made up of actors, theatre technicians, theatre arts administrators, choreographers, playwrights, teachers, musicians, and vocalists for over 45 years Ujima has been a leader in community serving as a resource to persons, community agencies, and institutions serving non-violence, cultural diversity, at-risk youth and positive values necessary for the development of the community.

Our Volunteer Roles

Front of House Greeter

Be a friendly face and welcome theater patrons as they enter the building.

Coat Room Attendants

Help patrons check coats, bags and umbrellas for safe keeping and ensure items are returned properly at the end of the show.

Ushers

Help patrons find their seats and direct them to different areas as needed such as the Box Office or the bathrooms.

Eligibility

Program Ushers

Prepare and distribute programs and patrons enter the theater.

Crew Call Volunteers

Be called to come and collaborate with Company Members to get theater spaces ready for a show. This includes cleaning/organizing shop spaces, dressing rooms, and stage areas.

  • Discounts on any individually purchased general admission tickets to any show in the current season

  • 1 entry into the VOLUNTEERS ONLY season subscription drawing for the 2024/25 season. Drawing to he held in August 2024.

  • The joy of being a part of the Ujima community making theater happen!

  • All volunteers must be 14 years of age or older. volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by or volunteer with an enrolled guardian chaperone aged 18+

  • Volunteers should agree to Ujima Company volunteer policies and expectations.

  • Volunteers should generally be willing to serve in any needed capacity for the full duration of the performance. We are happy to provide reasonable accommodations so volunteers can serve to the best of their capability.

  • Ujima is partnered with Syracuse Stage who can certify volunteer hours for enrolled volunteers (schools/colleges, workplace requirements, civic groups, etc.)
